How to Describe Grass with Colored Pencils

Landscape drawing often requires y'all to draw grass. (This is beyond an obvious statement.)

If you desire to create a realistic-looking landscape cartoon, you need to exist able to create the illusion of realistic grass in a landscape. Many people struggle with cartoon grass that really looks realistic, only this doesn't have to be the case.

Sympathize How Grass Grows

Learning how to describe realistic grass is a matter of understanding how grass grows and recognizing that grass doesn't grow as compatible lines. In fact, grass grows in a very "hap-hazard" way. Grass simply does not grow in unifrom lines, so it shouldn't exist drawn that way either.

When you make your marks, let the lines cross over each other. The lines should curve and bend. Take a close look at grass and you'll see that this is how grass actually grows. This should be reflected in your drawing.

Draw Lines From the Ground Upwardly

Marks fabricated for grass blades should be made from the ground upwards. This mode the line tapers a bit at the stop just like a real grass blade. Begin your lines at the ground and move them up towards the sky.

Typically the pressure that is placed on a pencil lessens as the pencil is pulled afterwards the initial contact on the surface. This is what will produce a natural taper at the terminate of the line.

Grass Isn't But Greenish

Grass is not merely light-green either. Information technology's made up of lots of colors. Of grade, green should be in the cartoon, simply mixed greens will interpret better. Try using yellowish ochre and darker blues, then layer yellowish-greens on top. Experiment with related colors and run into what works for the grass that you lot trying to emulate.

Sometimes, manufactured greens can look imitation and detract from the drawing. We see millions of colors, so it only makes sense that we need to mix as many of these every bit we tin can to create a natural illusion.

Stay Away From Blackness

When using colored pencils to draw grass, my suggestion is to stay abroad from blackness. Black is such a potent color, that when it is used - it can make a cartoon await constructed and unnatural. Instead, try mixing your own, more natural-looking blackness by mixing dark browns and blues together. Call back, only like anything else - grass has nighttime and calorie-free values. Endeavour the "black" mixture in the adumbral areas and you'll discover that it looks more natural.
